Home Health


Home Health of Greenwood County has been providing quality care to area residents since 1993. Today we offer one of the most complete sources of home health services in Butler, Chautauqua, Coffey, Elk, Greenwood, Lyon, Montgomery, Wilson and Woodson counties. Our services are managed by knowledgeable and experienced Nurse Care Managers in Home Health. To encourage the optimum independence for each of our patients the staff at Home Health of Greenwood County works closely with physicians and other members of the patient's care delivery team. Home Care allows patients to meet their individual health goals in the most comfortable setting of all, the privacy and comfort of home.

How do I pay for this service?

Home Health Care is less expensive and can often be just as effective as care in a hospital or a skilled nursing facility.

GWCH Home Health is:
Licensed by the state of Kansas and certified with Medicare and Medicaid.
Contracts with Private Insurance Companies including Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas,
     and Preferred Health Systems.

What criteria do patients have to meet to be eligible for the Medicare home health benefit?

All care must be ordered by a physician
Patients have a need for a skilled service (RN, ST, PT)
Must have a face to face encounter with Dr.
Homebound Status - Patients must be homebound - Pt leaves home infrequently or for a short duration
     and requires considerable and taxing effort. Patients may leave home for medical necessity, religious
     purposes, and occasional absences for nonmedical purpose.

What kind of patient would benefit from Home Care?

Patients with a new medical diagnosis that may still require education or instruction;
Patients being placed on new medications that may still require education or instruction;
Post-hospitalized patients needing further evaluation, assessment and/or teaching;
Recent stroke patients requiring PT, ST or OT;
Newly identified patients with a debilitating condition who would benefit from PT, ST or OT;
Patients having recent surgery resulting in homebound status with a need for short term,
     intermittent skilled care;
Individuals with a history of frequent falls;
Individuals with a recent illness changing functional ability.
Patients having hip or knee surgery.

Rehab Services

Include physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. The therapists are professionals trained to assist patients to regain and maintain independence in the home.

Nursing Services

Provide medication teaching and assistance, wound care, physical assessment, post surgical care, disease management and teaching, communication with the physician and designs a plan to assist the patient to stay at home and meet their health care needs.

Home Health Aide

Provides assistance with personal care and activities of daily living; and light housekeeping.

Wound Vac Therapy

Is a system that uses controlled negative pressure to help promote wound healing.

Compression Pump Therapy

For chronic venous insufficiency and edema of the ankles and leg. In most cases the patient will only need to perform the compression therapy 2 times a day for 30-60 minutes, treatment is performed in a reclined position with the legs elevated.
